US Air Force officials visit Machu Picchu today

Lima.- A delegation of 17 officials of the Air Force of the United States of America visit Saturday the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

US officials arrived in Cusco’s airport Alejandro Velasco Astete Friday noon.

Iván A. Ruiz, brigadier general of the American army, said that the group of visitors is very happy visiting Lima. The group was welcomed by the Foreign Affairs minister.

“The ceviche is really good, Lima is amazing, we came to Peru for the first time attracted by the history of the Incas, their politics, how they evolved and the remains they left. I’m sure it will be an unforgettable experience, my partners are fascinated with the visit,” said the American official.

Accompanied by a tourist guide from Cusco, the officials will go to Piscaucho, in Ollantaytambo, and then will visit the town of Machu Picchu.

INC to implement e-tickets sale for Machu Picchu

Cusco, Cusco’s National Institute of Culture (INC) will soon implement the sales system of electronic tickets to enter the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and other archaeological sites, in order to provide a better service to tourists.

At present, there are three points of sale: the citadel’s entrance, the Machu Picchu town (formerly called Aguas Calientes), and San Bernardo Street in the city of Cusco, which are opened only during office hours.

Which is why, the proposal is to have unlimited points of sale so that the tourist can purchase the entrance ticket directly and from any part of the world. The visitor would have to make a deposit to an account.

The cultural institution plans on signing an agreement with the Banco de la Nacion to make the payments by three methods: credit card (Visa), Multired Card, and cash.

To that end, the INC-Cusco servers will be connected by Internet with the bank’s network.

Near 38,500 tourists visited Machu Picchu since reopening

Lima, Some 38,454 tourists visited the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu a month after its reopening, reported the National Institute of Culture (INC) in Cusco.

According to April reports, from this number, 33,211 were foreign visitors and 5,243 were national, which reflects that the interest of foreign people is still there.

Machu Picchu was reopened on April 1 with a special ceremony which was attended by the Hollywood actress Susan Sarandon.

The statistics show that on that day the citadel received 1.688 visits, on April 2 were 1,822 visitors, and on April 3 were some 1.686.

The Inca Road, also reopened on April 1, was visited by 4,848 tourists, all of them foreigners.
