Near 38,500
tourists visited Machu Picchu since reopening
Lima,
Some 38,454 tourists visited the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu a
month after its reopening, reported the National Institute of
Culture (INC) in Cusco.
According to April reports, from
this number, 33,211 were foreign visitors and 5,243 were
national, which reflects that the interest of foreign people is
still there.
Machu Picchu was reopened on April
1 with a special ceremony which was attended by the Hollywood
actress Susan Sarandon.
The statistics show that on that
day the citadel received 1.688 visits, on April 2 were 1,822
visitors, and on April 3 were some 1.686.
The Inca Road, also reopened on
April 1, was visited by 4,848 tourists, all of them foreigners.
