New Inca Trail will turn Huayopata into a tourism
destination in Cusco
The new Inca Trail, which connects the districts of Huayopata and Machu
Picchu in Cusco, become the first in a new tourist
destination and will stimulate the local economy, today
reported the mayor, Marcial Álvarez Miranda.
"It is an excellent opportunity for our district, as it
will develop such an important activity such as tourism. The
expectation is high, "He said the newly discovered route by 11
young explorers in the area, will require adaptation works and
value, in order to make it accessible for visitors seeking a
new way to reach Machu Picchu. To
do this, go ahead and manage the evaluation and implementation
of projects to Copesco Plan authorities and other
institutions. The municipal authorities estimated
that improvement work of the new Inca trail could begin
next year after the end of the rainy season (from May or June). On
September 15 a group of young climbers from Huayopata began
the tour of the new Inca Trail to the Mandor sector in the
district of Machu Picchu,
which they claimed to do in six days. On the way
they found paved roads and small buildings that would be of the
Inca or Tahuantinsuyo.
Huayopata is on the road to Quillbabamba city, capital of the
province of La Convención. It has more than 5,700 people,
according to the 2007 national census.

Discover a new alternative route of the Inca Trail
On
September 15 a group of 11 young people began the journey of
what would be a new Inca trail that leads to
Machu Picchu. "After six
days, the group successfully arrived (Tuesday 20) to Machu Picchu and
we have reported finding archeological sites and sections of
high ecological value," he said. The expedition was received
with a festive atmosphere by locals.
Young people, who are part of an advanced expedition, came to
the area of Mandor,
Machu Picchu, where they were assisted by personnel from
the local community who had received the information that
they were lost. The road would last about 6 days, which
connects Huayopata district in the province of the
Convention, with the district of Machu
Picchu, in the province of Urubamba.
This is because passengers opened an alternative route, where
they met with paved roads, vizcachas, spectacled bears and small
buildings, said the Mayor of Machu
Picchu, Oscar Valencia.
It should be noted that rumors of a new Inca Trail has been
taking a long time, but until now was only a myth. Now, because
of this discovery, the mayor announced he will sign an agreement
with the municipality to form an expedition to Huayopata to give more
details on this new route, thus seeking to promote tourism use,
without problems, this will start on the 2nd

Infiltration of water is the main
problem in Machu Picchu, says study
The
fundamental problem faced by the Inca citadel of
Machu Picchu,
located in the South Andean department of Cusco, is the
infiltration of rainwater in the area where warned the
Geological, Mining and Metallurgy (Ingemmet)
According to studies by the institution during the Inca
occupation of platforms and buildings were protected from heavy
rains through gutters and drains that evacuate the water to
suitable areas. Currently, however, the lack of ceilings in
buildings and non-preservation or operation of many causes water
drains penetrate the soil and the loss of that resilience and
settlements as they occur in the main temple, temple of three
windows and the tower. Victor Carlotto, director of Regional
Geology of Ingemmet recommended the enhancement of existing Inca
drains do not work because they are buried or destroyed during
the restoration of the city. The research of Ingemmet concludes
that the phenomena affecting the Inca city are the external
geodynamics, namely those related to water and gravity. We have
identified a point of high risk on one platform and the wall in
the Intihuatana that can collapse under the weight caused by the
massive presence of tourists, said Carlotto. The platform is
supported on a wall with signs of deformation and water
infiltration and is in a nearly vertical slope with a drop of
almost 30 meters.
"We think that keeping the margins may be up to
four visits shifts from 2.30 to 3 hours per shift," said
Carlotto. The first entry might be from 06:00 to 09:00 hours for
tourists who sleep in the district of
Machu Picchu and
nearby hotels, from 09:00 to 12:00 hours for those arriving
early train from Ollantaytambo and Cusco . In addition, from
12:00 to 15:00 for visitors arriving by local train and other
trains, and from 15:00 to 18:00 for those who are sleeping in
the district of Machu
Picchu and leave to Cusco the next day.
The specialist said that the approach amount of visitor should
be less than 1.000 per shift, according to studies that are
agreed by the experts.
